1 Year Post Diploma BA (Hons) Performance Studies - Overview
21 years +
During the last 20 years Acting and Musical Theatre schools with NCDT or CDET accredited courses have actively sought university association and degree status for their courses. The PDBA was conceived because it was felt that any student with a Diploma in Acting or Musical Theatre from any UK NCDT or CDET accredited Drama Course should have access to a qualification at Degree level.
It is deemed that the completion of a three year accredited full time vocational course plus the PDBA conversion course are comparable to the training received by courses that are presently award degrees, and this is why the PDBA can offer, via conversion, a full BA Honours degree in Performance studies.
AIMS
This academic course will enable the student to reflect with greater depth on various aspects of their previous training and to emerge with a qualification that is broadly recognised, transferable and a base upon which further study and career development can be built.
It will extend the student’s theoretical experience of a range of performance styles and their understanding of the value and process of research.
It will enable the student to articulate ideas in both oral and written form, to create seminar presentations and to focus on a particular aspect of the performing arts in a final dissertation.
COURSE OVERVIEW
The PDBA (Hons) in Performance Studies is a part-time one-year conversion course validated by City University. It is specifically designed for those who already have an NCDT or CDET accredited three-year diploma in Drama or Musical Theatre.
The course converts the diploma awarded by an NCDT/CDET accredited course into a full BA (Hons) degree in Performance Studies through academic study and assessment over four terms.
THE PATTERN OF TRAINING
The course will be taught one evening a week over 3 terms. The course consists of six modules, which will be taught predominantly through lectures and seminars. Students will work in groups and individually under the supervision and guidance of a tutor. There is also a study skills module, which is taught over three terms and a dissertation, which is written during the summer vacation.
