THE ACADEMIC CURRICULUM

Students in the Sixth Form enjoy the opportunity of studying in depth those subjects in which they feel most interested and comfortable, whilst at the same time developing further their vocational and performing skills.
In Year 12, most students study three or four AS Level subjects, which include the following options:
Drama and Theatre Studies
Dance
Music
Art and Design
English Literature
English Language and Literature
Philosophy
Film Studies
A range of other subjects can be offered, depending on demand. Classes are small and results excellent. Careful assessment and individual monitoring ensures that each student maximizes their ability and achieves at the highest possible level.
In Year 13, students continue with their chosen subjects through to A2, usually concentrating on the three disciplines that are their strongest. Some will pick up another subject at AS Level to increase their qualification portfolio. Students have enjoyed a 100% pass rate at A Level for a significant number of years.

The vocational curriculum in the Sixth Form is both varied and exciting. The students have the opportunity to experience a wide range of subjects, some leading to formal qualifications whilst others give valuable performing experience. Musical Theatre Sixth Form
This course aims to develop the skills in Dance, Singing and Acting so that you start to develop a foundation as a ‘triple threat performer’ as well as continuing with academic studies to ‘A’ Level standard.
Your vocational studies for Musical Theatre in Dance include Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary and Song & Dance. You will have one–to–one singing lessons as well as ensemble singing. You will have acting classes and Voice/Speech classes. There will be audition technique classes in all disciplines so that you will feel confident and prepared when auditioning for Higher Education Programmes.
At the end of Year 1 pupils can audition for the Junior Musical Production. At the end of Year 2 you will be part of a Showcase that will show off your skills in the three vocational disciplines of Acting, Singing & Dance. You will also be entitled to a free audition for the BA (Hons) Musical Theatre. This is one of the UK’s most exciting and professionally regarded courses and is at the cutting edge of Musical Theatre training in Europe.
The Programme is of 2 Years’ duration; each year is normally 33 weeks, divided into three terms of approximately 11 weeks. On average there are 32 hours of directed study per week.
Students will study 2 AS Levels in Year 1, continuing to A2 in Year 2. A range of relevant subjects will be offered by the Sixth Form academic staff. Students on the course will be fully integrated into the life of the Sixth Form and wider school.
AIMS
- To enable students to perform with a strong technical foundation that gives the opportunity to audition successfully for three year degree programmes, safely and with confidence
- To help students develop their skills in dance, singing and acting to the highest level of which they are capable
- To ensure students are fully prepared for auditions for Higher Education Courses in the performance industry
Students who complete the Programme successfully will have:
- eveloped imaginative, expressive and technical skills as creative artists
- Acquired skills and relevant knowledge of the industry
- Developed a foundation of their subject based on technical and contextual studies and in practice
- Developed personal skills and qualities enhancing their potential to develop to Higher Education
- Gained an education and training so as to be prepared to secure and maintain themselves in the training of professional arts and entertainment industry
On completion of the course you will be awarded the prestigious Arts Educational Schools Diploma, in addition to any ‘A’ levels that you achieve.
