Admissions Procedure

Admission to Arts Educational Schools London is by vocational workshops and audition, and interview with the Head or a senior member of staff.
We also consider the reference from the applicant’s current school.

Audition

All students entering the sixth form must:
Prepare a musical theatre song of their choice - not a pop song or aria. Bring the sheet music of the song that has been prepared. You may be asked to sing some scales.

Ensure that appropriate clothing is worn for the different elements of the day, especially those considering AS Level Dance as an option.

Participate in a drama workshop.

AS Drama & BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts - Musical Theatre candidates

Please prepare the following for your audition:
One classical monologue from a play - Shakespeare, Marlowe or Webster
and also
One monologue from a play written post 1970

Each piece should be 1-2 minutes long and fully memorised. Students should also be prepared to discuss the monologues that they have performed.

For BTEC Extended Diploma in Performing Arts, a Jazz Dance audition is required - candidates do not need to prepare anything but should wear appropriate clothing.

AS Music

An instrumental piece on your chosen instrument, minimum grade 4 standard.
Please bring your own sheet music with you.

You may sing for this audition but please note that only candidates with a level of keyboard skills to a minimum of grade 2 standard will be considered for A Level Music. If you have passed
any graded exams in practical or theory please bring your certificates. Students will have to sit a short theory test.

AS Dance

Students are required to prepare a piece of their own choreography for a solo dance inspired by a picture or photograph of your choice.
The solo must be 1-2 minutes in length and be in one of the following styles – Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance or Modern Jazz Dance
(Please note: not Street Jazz/Hip-Hop or Tap).
Please bring with you the picture or photograph that inspired you. Your music should be on a CD.
Jazz Dance audition - candidates do not need to prepare anything but should wear appropriate clothing.

AS Art and Design

Please bring a portfolio of your GCSE work, including a range of work from years 10 & 11, and ideally some work which you have produced independently.

All Students

• Should ensure that they wear the appropriate clothing for the different elements of the day, especially those considering Dance AS as an option.

• Bring a drink and /or snack

Overseas Applicants
The UK Government is reviewing the systems whereby overseas students from non-EU countries can study in the UK. We are currently taking advice from the UK Borders Agency as to how to proceed which may cause a delay in the processing of your application to study at The Arts Educational Schools. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.”
