SATURDAY SCHOOL

Ages 3 18 years & All Adults
Founded in 1986, when Arts Educational Schools London relocated to its present premises in Chiswick, the number of pupils in the Saturday School was less than 20. Over the years the school has grown substantially and now approximately 55 classes in the performing arts are timetabled on a Saturday and there is a pupil population of 450. The ages range from 3 18 yrs, and there are also some classes for adults.
At 3 years children begin to learn the rudimentary skills of Ballet. From the age of 5, Drama, Tap, Modern, and Flamenco classes become available. Jazz dance, Singing and Musical Theatre are further options for those over 8. The dance curriculum is, for the most part, exam-syllabus based, and pupils are encouraged to take the early Grades
Pre-Primary/ Primary through to Grade 8 and the Major Examinations. Exams are not compulsory, but many pupils warm to the sense of achievement and progression that success in these bring. The examination classes are Ballet (Royal Academy of Dance), Tap, Modern and Flamenco (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing).
As far as possible, the timetable is designed so that pupils can take a variety of classes. Drama pupils, for instance, might like to opt for additional classes in Jazz, Musical
Theatre or Tap, while some of the dedicated dancers will attend the full range of dance classes on offer.
The adult classes in Tap (Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced), Singing and Flamenco are relatively recent additions to the timetable. Today, parents of pupils in the Saturday School who dont see why their children should have all the fun are often seen in these classes, though not exclusively so!
The Saturday School, which although by definition is a part-time institution, can have a long-term impact, and some of our pupils who started at the school aged 3 have stayed with us until 18. Strong links are maintained with the full-time school and when pupils express a wish to move into full-time vocational education, our teachers are only too pleased to coach them in audition and interview technique.
The Saturday School, above all, is there to be enjoyed, and if you are seeking part-time vocational training we very much welcome you to our department.
Registration
Students can register at any time during the first five weeks of term, i.e. up to half-term. After half-term students must wait until the following term to enrol. To register on a Saturday, you should arrive at Reception about 15-20 minutes before your class begins in order to complete the necessary paperwork, and the receptionists will assist you in finding the right studio. Or you can download an application form and forward it with your cheque to The Saturday School, The Arts Educational Schools, 14 Bath Road, Chiswick W4 1LY.
