1 Year/MA Acting - Funding and Fees

If successful in gaining a place, the applicant will usually be told within a week of the audition. If they wish to apply for a Dance and Drama Award (see below for details) they will be sent a Financial Details form for them and their parents to complete. The Awards are given to the students who are judged at the audition to have the most potential to succeed in the profession.  Where applicants are judged to have equal potential, the Awards are allocated to those who are in greatest financial need. If not offered an Award the student must be absolutely certain they have enough funds for the fees and the considerable expense of living in London for one or three years, before accepting a place. It can be heart-breaking for a student to have to leave the course early.

FUNDING

DANCE AND DRAMA AWARDS

YPLA logo

The Dance and Drama Awards (DaDAs) are scholarships funded by the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA). They are awarded by the school to the students who display the most potential to succeed in the profession. Although these awards are currently under review the DaDA scheme will be supported for a final transitional year in 2012/13. This means that students showing exceptional talent intending to start courses in September 2012 will continue to be offered awards under the DaDA scheme, and will be funded to the end of their courses. Information on future arrangements will be published as soon as it is made available.

Only students taking the approved Trinity College qualification, the Diploma in Professional Acting (Level 5) will be eligible to apply for an Award. This qualification lasts one year and is at National Certificate level.

The Awards offer greatly reduced tuition fees and access to an income assessed student support fund.

For further information about the awards and eligibility, please visit the DaDA webside at http://www.direct.gov.uk/danceanddrama

Professional and Career Development Loan
Professional and Career Development Loans are commercial bank loans that can be used to help pay for work related learning. You can borrow between £300 and £10,000 to help support the cost of up to two years of learning (or three years if it includes one year’s relevant unpaid practical work). The Government will pay the interest on the loan while you are learning and for one month afterwards. You will then need to start repaying the loan as you would any other commercial loans product. The loan can be used to pay course fees or other costs such as travel and living expenses. You can also use the loan to supplement other forms of support such as grants or bursaries.

As the Professional and Career Development Loan is a commercial loan product, you should make sure you have investigated all the funding options that may be open to you to ensure you take an informed decision about whether the Loan is right for you.

Note: Applicants should look for other forms of funding before taking out an unsecured loan for education and should only borrow what is required to enable them to study. Early repayment of the loan is possible and reduces the cost of the loan.

What a fantastic achievement your BAFTA screening was, June 2010. The works gets better and better each year. I have been singing your praises and will definitely be giving out your DVD to fellow industry professionals.
