A tale of love, faith, trust and revenge, Antonio borrows money from Shylock the money-lender, so that his friend Bassanio may travel to Belmont and woo the beautiful heiress Portia.
Shylock’s only condition is that a pound of Antonio’s flesh be owed, should the debt not be repaid in time. Antonio’s ships are lost at sea and he pleads to Shylock for another way to repay him. Shylock refuses, and so we are lead into the courts, where some surprising characters in disguise are given the task to decide the fate of Antonio’s flesh.
