Holiday Courses - Audition Technique

6th-10th August 2012

Bookings for both Acting and Musical Theatre can be made by following the links at the bottom of this page.

Auditioning for the first time can be a daunting process, and we want to give those applying to drama school the best chance they can have of successfully gaining a place to their chosen drama school, whether this be ArtsEd, or elsewhere.  Learn what is required to succeed at audition from current ArtsEd staff, tutors and students of the BA courses as part of this intensive course.

Musical Theatre option

6th - 10th August, 10am - 5pm daily
Course fee - £270

Participants should come prepared with a song from any musical theatre production, and one contemporary monologue, lasting approximately 2 minutes (maximum 3 mins). Classes will be a mixture of group and one-to-one sessions with the tutors.  Classes will be spread evenly between Acting, Singing and Dance.

For Acting, you will participate in acting classes focused on developing your character and performance.  For Singing, you will be led in a series of workshops intended to give clarity and distinction to your performance, whilst focusing on singing and character.  For Dance, you will be led through a series of dance routines intended to familiarise you with modern and jazz techniques, before participating in a moch-audition process, where you will be expected to quickly learn and perform a dance routine, as would be true from any musical theatre audition.

The first 2 days are focused entirely on musical theatre training, focusing on the skills you would be expected to demonstrate at audition.  On the third day, you will have an informal audition, where you will receive feedback from the tutors, and be able to spend the rest of that day working in small groups with the students from the BA Course, working with the feedback you’ll have received.  The fourth day will again focus on training, and what to do the day before an audition.  The final day will be a formal moch-audition, where you will experience what it would be like to audition at ArtsEd.

Please note that this is not a real audition, however we aim to give a genuine experience of what it would be like to audition at ArtsEd.

Acting option

6th-10th August, 10am - 5pm daily
Course fee - £270

Participants should come prepare with one Shakespeare monologue, and one Contemporary monologue, each lasting approximately 2 minutes (maximum 3 mins). Classes will be a mixture of group and one-to-one sessions with the tutors, where you will learn and develop effective audition preparation; from studying the text, developing your character and finally your performance, as well as learning the fundamentals of performing Shakespeare and contemporary methods, including Naturalism and Stanislavski.

The first three days are focused entirely on performer training, focusing on the skills you would be expected to demonstrate at audition.  As part of this, you will have individual sessions with the tutors to work on your monologues, and receive feedback on your performance. The fourth day will be a formal moch-audition, where you will experience what it would be like to audition at ArtsEd.

Please note that this is not a real audition, however we aim to give a genuine experience of what it would be like to audition at ArtsEd.
