Tier 2 Courses

Courses offered within Tier 2 change from term-to-term, meaning that participants wishing to continue for more than one term will continue to learn and expand their knowledge and versatility as performers.
Whilst courses are open access, all students should have undertaken some form of prior training, either elsewhere or by taking one of our Tier 1 courses.  To discuss your previous experience please call 020 8987 6692 or email .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
All courses offer vocational training, and are led by professionals of their field.  All tutors have either trained at ArtsEd, or are tutors on our undergraduate courses, making these courses ideal for anyone wishing to experience our unique training, whether as an amateur, or someone considering further training at a BA level.
Next term’s courses are updated below.  A full year schedule will be updated before the start of term.

Courses Available From January 2012

Courses run as 10 sessions over 11 weeks (no class in week 6).  Each class runs 7:00pm-9:30pm, one evening per week.

Acting for Screen & TV - Tier 2 - Wednesday Evenings

SOLD OUT
Next Term is entitled: Action, the Moment and the Other
Course Aim: Establish the core techniques for acting on camera, Action, the truth of the moment and playing from the other. Focusing on realism.

This term begings a new series of Screen & TV courses, with a focus on portraying reality on screen.  Unlike stage-acting, screen acting requires the performer to underplay the emotion, in order to make it authentic.  The focus is not on what you do therefore, but what you don’t do.  Through a mixture of exercises and working with the camera participants will have the opportunity to make their own discoveries through observation, review and feedback.
Footage captured will be edited and available within a few weeks following the end of the course.  This is intended as a means for you to see the final product you created and completes the final stage of learning for the term.  Please note this is not intended as show reel material.
Course Tutor: Merryn Owen

Acting for Stage - Tier 2 - Wednesday Evenings

BOOK NOW
Next Term is entitled: Truth & Authenticity
Course Aim: Establish the concept of Authenticity in the actor’s work, by looking at Stanislavski’s system of acting, and methods inspired by his work.

This term focuses on what it is to “be authentic” as an actor.  The main focus of this term is Stanislavski’s System of Acting, along with methods developed by other practitioners who based their methods on his teachings.  Stanislavski’s work is central to most modern-day performer training, and throughout this course we will apply the exercises which he developed to our practical work within the class, developing our knowledge through scripted scene-work and devised performance.
Course Tutor: Charlotte Whitaker

Musical Theatre - Tier 2 - Thursday Evenings

BOOK NOW
This Term is entitled: Kander & Ebb, Bob Fosse and Stephen Sondheim
Course Aim: An exploration of the collaborations of different styles/techniques created by these lyricists, choreographers and directors from the last 50 years.  Focus on Performance.

This term provides a great opportunity to explore the works of these great composers, choreographers and lyricists.  In the first half of term, participants will be exposed to Fosse Technique whilst learning/performing musical numbers from musicals written by Kander & Ebb (such as Chicago for example), contrasting as well with others such as Sweet Charity, which Fosse choreographed originally.  Following this, participants will be exposed to the works of Stephen Sondheim, offering a contrast to the first part of term and providing a stronger emphasis characterisation, in comparison to the song & dance routines of the first 5 weeks.

A great course to expand and enhance your knowledge of Musical Theatre through triple threat, vocational training.
Course Tutors: Kylie Cruikshanks and Ryan Dixon (Choreographers and Dance Tutors), Jonathan Yesten-Thomas (Musical Director and Singing Tutor)

Students of drama constantly amaze me with their dedication, love and vitality in a profession that is, to say the least, unforgiving. Students at Arts Educational Schools London - particularly in their film work - are truly inspirational, inspired by a film department that is second to none.
