ArtsEd Awarded ‘Outstanding’ OFSTED Report
20 February 2012
OFSTED’s rigorous inspection of the Arts Educational Schools, London has concluded that the school is officially ‘outstanding’ – the highest grading possible for a performing arts college. The official report said: “The message is uncompromising; ArtsEd trains students to be the very best musical theatre performers in the country.”
Likewise the Acting School was praised for its unique focus on film and television as well as stage training. As one industry expert said: “Students graduate with an extremely high level of knowledge and understanding of life on a film and television set, and are very well grounded, artistically, creatively and practically. They understand what every role is on a working film set, and not just from an acting perspective. ArtsEd is an excellent place for actors wanting to work in film and TV in particular.”
Jane Harrison, Principal of the Arts Educational School, said: “This endorsement is a tremendous accolade for the school. Our ambition is to provide the best quality training in musical theatre and acting for film and television in the UK. OFSTED has independently concluded that we do!
“This was an extremely thorough process. OFSTED investigated every aspect of our work and canvassed a wide range of independent opinion, talking to students, employers, agents, directors and other industry players. The extreme rigour of the process makes their overall judgement even more worthwhile. This is a meaningful ‘outstanding’ seal of approval recognised by staff, students and the industry.”
ArtsEd was praised across the board. In particular OFSTED commented on the high quality of ‘inspirational’ teaching and the commitment, professionalism and hard work shown by teachers and students. Inspectors were impressed by the high level of trust and confidence of the industry in ArtsEd’s training, and the willingness of practitioners to become involved in teaching and directing productions. Inspectors agreed the school ‘offers outstanding value for money.’ They also praised the phenomenal ‘employability’ of ArtsEd graduates. In 2010-2011, 100 per cent of Musical Theatre graduates had agents, and 95 per cent had work upon graduation. All of last year’s acting graduates secured agent representation and the majority of acting students secured employment within six months of graduation.

Dance and Drama Awards to continue for final year
10 January 2012
The Dance and Drama Awards (DaDAs) are scholarships funded by the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA). They are awarded by the school to the students who display the most potential to succeed in the profession.
For the past year the DaDAs have been under review by a group comprising the Department for Education, the Department for Business Innovation and Skills (BIS), the Young People’s Learning Agency (YPLA) and the Skills Funding Agency. The review team has elected to take more time to consider how best to provide support for the most talented young people intending to undertake specialist dance and drama training in the UK, consequently any new funding arrangements have been postponed until September 2013. This means that the DaDA scheme will run for a final transitional year (2012/13) and students with exceptional talent who are accepted for courses beginning in September 2012 will be eligible for awards under the DaDA scheme, and will be funded to the end of their courses.
The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation
08 November 2011
The Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation is giving £3,544,200 to Arts Educational Schools, London (ArtsEd) to fund a major refurbishment project.
Jane Harrison, Principal of the Arts Educational Schools London (ArtsEd), says: “We are obviously delighted to receive this grant from the Andrew Lloyd Webber Foundation and would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the process. This award is a powerful endorsement of the quality of our training. It will enable us to invest in the fabric of our building, and bring our facilities up to the same high standard as our teaching for both current and future students.”
