MISSION STATEMENT
I was recently asked to sum up Arts Educational Schools in five bullet points – not an easy task, I thought. But then – after being here for a year – I realised why the place is special:
- We are aware that we are the inheritors of something which started before we arrived on the scene. We are proud of our heritage and we accept that our central mission has always been to educate talented performing arts students (especially actors, dancers, singers, musicians) so they can achieve the highest artistic standards, as well as become leaders in their professions. There are traditional values of the institution which have underpinned its success – and we continue to believe that educational values are as important as artistic and professional ones. At the heart of the policies of Arts Educational Schools London is the belief in its responsibility to meet the intellectual, artistic, as well as personal needs of our students
- Art does not happen in isolation or in merely timetabled classes. We are committed to building connections between art forms – including the visual arts, media and literature
- We are committed to continuously raising our educational and artistic standards, while encouraging in our students a sense of their own professional responsibilities for enhancing the performing arts and for enabling those arts to serve society more effectively
- We are committed to taking an active role in shaping the future of the performing arts, by reaching beyond our own walls to help both education and the performing arts to thrive. Inherent in this role is a commitment to explore, foster and share best practice in both performance and teaching. We are dedicated to producing professionals and artists – not merely job seekers
- We also believe that our commitment to our students extends beyond the formal training process. We will explore opportunities to support our graduates and alumni and to encourage them to take an active role in the future of the schools.
- We are also committed to find new ways of continuing to extend the abilities of our students beyond graduation day
This is fairly simple – a commitment to teach well, employ well, pursue excellence and to make a difference in the world.
