The Course
The Foundation Course is a one-year part time course that runs for each of three evenings per week – Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Classes are 2½ hours and follow a structured modular syllabus. The year consists of thirty two weeks, delivered as three terms with regular breaks.
You choose to study either the Acting or Musical Theatre option - the Acting option delivers a range of classes under the headings of Acting, Voice and Movement, and the Musical Theatre option under the headings Acting, Singing and Dance.
We aim to create an environment for training which is based on trust, mutual respect and shared passion, allowing students to learn from within a strong ensemble group, which grows from the input of each individual.
All Foundation Course tutors are employed in the performing professions and teach on professional training courses at accredited schools.
The Foundation Course culminates in a final showcase performance, to which you will be able to invite friends and family.
All Foundation Course students enjoy discounted Arts Educational Schools London theatre tickets, membership to the library and gym, and access to the bar and canteen.

Recognition
The One Year Foundation Course in Performance is recognised by City University, endorsing the educational value and quality of the programme. All students who successfully complete the course are awarded an Arts Educational Schools London certificate of attendance showing this recognition.

Who is the course for?
The course is aimed primarily at those thinking of applying for full-time accredited training, giving a real taster of what full-time training requires and boosting confidence for auditions. It is also useful for those who wish to test their capacity and commitment to acting and musical theatre, enhance their skill base as an amateur, and for those interested in transforming their personal confidence and presentation skills.
You will need to have real dedication and commitment as the course runs to a strict professional discipline. It aims to teach the craft and disciplines of performance, and a strong spine of professional practice runs through the programme. One of the criteria for successful completion of the course will be attendance and punctuality – you will be expected to attain a consistently high level.
You should be aged 17 years and over on the first date of the course – there is no maximum age limit. Overseas applicants are welcome but must be able to attend an audition in London, and must speak and understand English fluently.
All applicants should have some prior experience.

The audition
Upon receipt of your application, you will be invited to attend an informal audition evening for which you will be asked to prepare a number of pieces. For the Acting option, you will be asked to prepare two monologues.
For the Musical Theatre option, you will be asked to prepare two songs and a monologue.
All applicants will participate in a group drama workshop and Musical Theatre candidates will also take part in a short dance class.
You will be notified in writing, usually within a week of auditioning, whether you have successfully gained a place on the course.
