ACTING FOR BEGINNERS

This popular and fun course gives you a thorough grounding and confidence in the rehearsal room to get you in the swing of things! You will achieve an understanding of the fundamentals of acting, and through a series of acting games and exercises, observational and imaginative work, improvisations, voice and movement work, you will explore status and objectives, and begin to build characters and devise stories, working towards an informal showing for family and friends.

ACTING FOR IMPROVERS

A continuation of the Acting for Beginners course. In this course you will further enhance your skills in acting and stagecraft, with emphasis on individual development and small group work through the introduction of text and studied rehearsals. A certain level of confidence and willingness to ‘jump in’ is needed as you explore themes, conflicts, archetypes and shifts in pace, status and objectives, working towards an informal showing for family and friends.

STORYTELLING

In this inspiring course you will use real and imagined stories to dramatically improve your confidence in your own communication – both vocal and physical. Learn to really be ‘in the moment’,
think on your feet and trust your instincts. Develop your creativity and imagination whilst mastering the games and techniques to improvise with others. Reading a play and preparing a role as an actor can be a daunting task – this course will give you the tools to approach text without fear. SHAKESPEARE

An intensive look at the work of England’s most notable playwright, William Shakespeare, from a performer's point of view. Through the practical investigation of elements in the verse and prose, you will discover the clues to pacing, character and clarity of communicating the story. You will work on a number of plays during the course and unravel any underlying fears you may have about the Elizabethan language.

ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE

An excellent introductory course to this complementary technique. Understand effective body use and good posture, using appropriate effort. Poise, vitality and coordination improve, breathing and speaking become easier, movement becomes freer, lighter, and more enjoyable. The Alexander Technique is great for everyone to practice, and it is especially beneficial to performers. Group size is kept very small for maximum hands-on participation.

STAGE COMBAT – BADC
Dates: Mon 7 – 9.30pm

Working with a qualified, professional fight teacher, you will learn armed (rapier and dagger) and unarmed stage combat techniques, apply a fight sequence safely to a rehearsed scene and conclude with an examination with the British Academy of Dramatic Combat. All weapons are provided and the cost of the exam is included. An exhilarating course!

Working with both a Musical Director and a Choreographer, you will explore what it means to put together all three musical theatre skills – acting, song and dance. AUDITION TECHNIQUE:

In a safe, exploratory environment, you will look at confidence, personal presentation, casting, sight reading and choice of material. At the end of the course, you will have the chance to do a mock audition to a panel of working professionals, getting their valuable one-to-one feedback and response on your audition technique. Foundation Course

JAZZ DANCE – REGULAR CLASS

A regular dance class working on jazz technique and routines. Build your strength, stamina, coordination and performance ability with this fun and energetic class appropriate for all levels.
